Alleged Imposition: Southern Ukanafun APC Stakeholders Condemn Media Report
Against the recent letter purportedly written by Southern Ukanafun Consultative Forum which was published in a local tabloid in the State (Central Times) and addressed to the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders from Southern Ukanafun under the aegis of Southern Ukanafun APC Stakeholders have risen in unison to condemn the write up.
The Stakeholders have equally condemned the misrepresentation of facts as portrayed in the said publication, noting that there is no iota of truth about the alleged imposition of a wrong candidate.
Arising from their meeting held recently and a communiqué issued and made available to The Sensor, the stakeholders described the letter purportedly signed by one Mark Ekomobong Friday as a gross misrepresentation of facts on zoning as put in place by the fore-bearers of Ukanafun politics.
They noted that the so called Southern Ukanafun Consultative Forum is a group sponsored by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to create bad blood among the peace loving people of the area.
The stakeholders, particularly noted that the State House of Assembly Seat in Ukanafun has never been zoned on clan basis but on bloc between Ukanafun and Afaha.
Armed with facts to buttress their points, the stakeholders disclosed that since the return of democracy in 1999, the two blocs have maintained the zoning without any acrimony as only aspirants from a particular bloc would vie for the seat.
According to the zoning formula made available to The Sensor newsroom, in 1999, it was the turn of Afaha bloc and Late Mr. Jobson Udoudo from Southern Afaha and Mr. Sunday Amos Udo from Northern Afaha contested.
In 2003, when it was the turn of Ukanafun bloc, Mr. Saturday Michael Akpan from Southern Ukanafun, Dr. Uwem Akpan Uko from Southern Ukanafun and Mr. Usoro Ukpana from Northern Ukanafun contested.
In 2007, when it was the turn of Afaha bloc, Late Obong Okon Uwa from Adat Ifang, Mr. Census Ekpu from Southern Afaha and Mr. Ime Umanah from Northern Afaha all contested.
According to the document, when the seat returned to Ukanafun bloc in 2011, Elder Aniekan Akpan from Northern Ukanafun, Dr. Charity Ido from Southern Ukanafun, Mr. Amos Udom from Northern Ukanafun and Mr. Udeme Ibanga (alias Andy) from Southern Ukanafun all contested.
Again, when it was the turn of Afaha bloc in 2015, Otobong Jonathan from Northern Afaha, Apostle Sylvester Udokang from Southern Afaha and Elder Nseobong Umana from Southern Afaha contested.
The stakeholders while commending the Party's leadership for maintaining the standard set by the forbearers said that it would have been unjust to allow the position of two elective offices, the position of the council chairman and State House of Assembly seat to be domiciled in one place as currently canvassed by the so-called consultative forum.
The stakeholders further commended the Party for doing what is right in ensuring the emergence of a candidate that will match PDP in the general election, next year.
Meanwhile, the stakeholders have condemned the threat by few selfish individuals to reignite crisis in Ukanafun, saying that Ukanafun has had more than enough in terms of crisis. They noted that the media report that fragile peace experienced recently could be truncated and that the Forum will stop at nothing to resist a popular candidate is quite unfortunate.
On the building of the Party to be a courting bride today, the stakeholders said that those that joined the Party in recent times have brought life into it and made it admirable.
This fact, they noted had been attested to by the National Leadership of the Party.
While chiding the insinuations that Southern Ukanafun has the highest number of votes in the entire Ukanafun, the stakeholders disputed the claim and pointed out that Northern Ukanafun Ward 4 alone has 14 units with equal voting strength.
Meanwhile, commendations have continued to trail the APC House of Assembly candidate for Ukanafun, Elder Nnamso Eyo Idiong. Speaking separately with newsmen, Mr. Ukotobong Ibekwe, Obong James Ekekere, William Okpokpo and Ime Monday Akpan, all described Elder Idiong as a grassroot politician and mobilizer who always identified with the people of the area.
They noted particularly that Elder Idiong lived in Ukanafun despite the security challenge and expressed optimism that he will win the general election to give Ukanafun people good representation.
