More A’Ibomites Condemn Attacks On N’Delta Affairs Minister

A coalition of media professionals in the Niger Delta Region under the aegis of Niger Delta Media Consortium NDMC, has condemned in entirety, the recent publications by some local tabloids in Akwa Ibom State and  the social media alleging that Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Godswill Akpabio called for a probe of the NDDC and indicted former Managing Director, Obong Nsima Ekere as being instrumental to the inept indebtedness of a whooping sum of  N2 Trillion Naira.
Condemning the false publication, the proactive media consortium admonish media practitioners in Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole to always abide by ethics of journalism profession, and abhore fabricated news and unbalanced reportage.
Addressing newsmen after the inaugural congress of the NUJ in Uyo ,  the chairman Niger Delta Media consortium, Alhaji Aminu Ebong said it was shockng and shameful to observe that some unscropulouse elements still take pride in carrying out unwarranted blackmail and fallacious media publications against top government officials even after elections was over and Nigerians are praying for a better future. He describe such unholsome media practice as not only unprofessional but unproductive.
It could be recalled that recently, Minister of Niger Dela Affairs held a meeting with the management of Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC at Abuja. He clearly briefed members in attendance that the meeting was necessitated  by the fact that as a supervisory ministry, they ought to know each other with a view to chart a new agenda for a progressive team work, in order to achieve desired goals.
The Minister no doubt told them that NDDC did not perform well as expected. He said few weeks ago the vice President of Nigeria , Professor Yemi Osinbajo openly remarked that the commission had failed.
Senator Akpabio also frowned at the debt burden  of N2 trillion naira owed by the commission, and blamed it on poor contractual business transactions rocking the commission accasioned by diverse interests and undue interfersnces. He stressed the need for the commission to be refocused so as to justify the huge amount of money expended on the commission by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Also speaking, Minister of state in the Ministry, Barr. Festus Keyamo SAN classified the performance of the NDDC as a failure, saying that their performance was not commensurate with the huge amount of money spent by the Federal Government.  Keyamo spoke on various burning issues and warned that from now on, its not going to be business as usual.
A crucial scrutiny of speeches made by both Senator Akpabio and his deputy, Festus Keyamo SAN reveals that there was no iota of indictment against the person of the former MD of the commission Obong Nsima Ekere or any particular person.
The media consortium chairman therefore wondered why a cross section of the media refuse to be objective in their reportage but choose to wallow in junk journalism and absurd mischievous activities. Alhaji Aminu Ebong therefore called on the new state executive of the Nigerian Union of Journalistl led by a seasoned media practitioner comrade Amos Etuk to get rid of yahoo boys and quacks who tend to ridicule journalism profession in the state He advised journalists in the Niger Delta not to be  willing tools in the hands of some desperate politicians who are bent on promoting hatred and disunity among Akwa Ibom people.
Journalism is a noble profession that promotes truth, peacel, unity and progress.  We should therefore inculcate the spirit of developmental journalism but not destructive journalism. The minister of Niger Delta Affairs, his deputy, the NDDC and infact the President and his Federal Executive Council deserves our collective  support in other for them to succeed in transforming Nigeria better, added Alhaji Aminu Ebong.
