We Don’t Want Slums In Uyo – UCCDA Boss Roars

By UbongAbasi Ise

The Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Prince Enobong Uwah has said his agency will not fold its hands to watch the city of Uyo turned into a shanty town.

Commenting recently on the ongoing demolition by UCCDA, Uwah said the operation is to maintain sanity in the capital city.

He called on residents of Uyo to desist from erecting illegal structures considered odd  to the aesthetics of Akwa Ibom biggest city.

The Chairman frowned at encroachment of shanties on the highbrow axis of Udo Udoma Avenue  where important public and private institutions including the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Central Bank of Nigeria, New Dakkada Secretariat, Ibom Tropicana, the Nigerian Army Quarters, the High Court, among others  are located.

The demolition exercise, which to-k off from Idoro Road proceeded to the Udo Udoma Avenue where illegal structures such as containers, makeshift shops , sign posts, fences and other forms of unauthorized buildings were brought down.

The UCCDA Chairman underscored the need to revert to the Master Plan of the city, warning defaulters and owners of already demolished structures from going back to rebuild new ones as the Authority is closely monitoring Uyo metropolis to forestall defacement of the Capital City and non-compliance to development processes.
