The clan head of Ekparakwa in Oruk
Anam Local Government Area, His Royal Highness Jonny Mmeh Etuk, has
decried the poor infrastructural development in the area.
He stated this recently while
briefing our correspondents in his palace.
Obong Mmeh explained that lack of
infrastructure, such as electricity and good road network hinders development.
He however disclosed that
adequate power supply can attract investors to establish businesses in the area
thereby improving the wellbeing of the people.
He said, "we are not feeling
fine due to poor power supply, it is not a good thing to happen, with that you
cannot talk of any development because when there is no light, life is
difficult. If there is adequate power supply people would come in and establish
business".
He appealed to the state government
to speedily address the problem even as it would improve the standard living of
the people.
While fielding questions from our
correspondents on Fulani herdsmen and farmers clash in the area, he maintained
that they have worked assiduously to restore peace noting that in some areas
such as Nnung Ikot Asanga, plans have been concluded to get the herders and
their cows away from the people's farm.
According to him, "I don't
think that the herders are still using their cows to destroy people's farm
crops now, but though it happened, we struggle to get their leaders, we brought
it to their notice and they stood by us until the cows were removed. About
Nnung Ikot Asanga, the people came here this week and the herders promised us
that they would get their cows away from people's farm", he added.
