Unclaimed Vehicles, Other Properties: Police Give 14 Days Ultimatum

Abasiofiok Inyang Following long abandonment of vehicles, motor-cycles and other household items at Onna Division, the State Police Command has urged owners of such properties to visit the Division with Proof of ownership for identification and collection or risk being disposed off through public auction. The decision by the Police Command to auction the said properties after 14 days public notice beginning from August 29, 2017, is contained in a press released signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu and   made available to The Sensor Crime Desk. Revealed: A'Ibom Teachers Give Bribe For Gratuity, Promotion …Blast NUT For Plight

Retired Primary School Teachers in Akwa Ibom State have revealed that they were asked to give bribes in order to facilitate payment of their gratuities by the State government. The teachers who spoke on condition of anonymity noted that even when they had complied by paying 200 each, they are still shocked that the gratuities are not yet paid. The retirees who lamented that non-payment of their gratuities has made retirement life very painful because they have been rendered useless in the society pleaded with Governor Udom Emmanuel to take steps and approve payment of their gratuities (bulk amount of money given to retired persons to settle down to a new life) Also, primary school teachers in the State have decried the shabby treatment meted to them either by delaying or non-payment of their entitlement. Nigerian Senate Amends Electoral Acts

The Senate passed the Electoral Act No. 6 2010 (Amendment) Bill 2017 into law. 1. There shall now be full biometric accreditation of voters with Smart Card Readers and/or other technological devices, as INEC may introduce for elections from time to time. 2. Presiding Officers must now instantly transmit accreditation data and results from Polling Units to various collation centers. Presiding officer who contravene this shall be imprisoned for at least 5 years (no option of fine). 3. All Presiding Officer must now first record accreditation data and polling results on INEC’s prescribed forms before transmitting them. The data/result recorded must be the same with what they transmitted. 4. INEC now has unfettered powers to conduct elections by electronic voting. 5. World Bank Captures IBB Flood Control in 2018 Budget

The persistent flood situation along IBB avenue in Uyo will soon be a thing of the past as World Bank has captured the cost of an effective flood control system in their 2018 budget. The commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr.Iniobong Essien dropped the hint when he inspected an intervention effort by the Akwa Ibom state government along Udo Inwang street in Uyo weekend. According to the commissioner, the cost for the control of flood along IBB is high which   cannot be handled by the state government alone thus an assistance from World Bank under the Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project. "A lot of things are ongoing including the flooding at IBB avenue which is a source of worry.
